Yesterday I was at The Truth Shop in Weston trying to get something for my group meetings when I overheard a customer asking the clerk if they had a copy of "The Purpose Driven Life". Then I heard the customer ask if they have a study guide version or a good relationship book to use it for a couples or singles bible study group. I saw that the clerk wasn't too sure of what was available so I decided to jump in and help the customer.
I mentioned to her that there was a study guide version of "The Purpose Driven Life" and that I had gone through a singles group study of the book, "Choosing Gods Best." I also recommended two books from Joshua Harris, "Kissing Dating Goodbye" and "Boy Meets Girl." I just gave her a preview of the books and gave her my recommendations based on what she was looking for. Finally she decided on going with "Boy Meets Girl" and wanted to get two copies but there was only one copy left. Well she thanked me and went on with her business...
Then it hit me!
Hey, I have that book at home and I have read it several times already I don't need it anymore.
So I rushed to the lady and told her, "Hey, you know, I have that book at home and since you need another copy, I don't mind rushing home and bringing it to you." She was like, "great, you would do that?" I said, "yeah!"
She ended up giving me directions to her job since she was leaving to work already.
I rushed home and when I got to my house I realized that I still had a copy of all the books we discussed, The Purpose Driven Life, Choosing Gods Best and Boy Meets Girl. So I decided that I would give her all the books since I have read them all. Then I realized that I didn't have any We Love SoFlo cards so I quickly called Alex and Erin to see if they can let me get some.
I got the cards from Erin and told them what I was doing and was on my way. I got to the lady's job and gave her all the books. She was excited and appreciative. I gave her a couple of the SoFlo cards and encouraged her to do something good for someone else and to check out the site and become a member. She liked the whole idea.
She ended up invited me to her group study and asked me about the church I am affiliated with. I gave her the website to our church and invited her to come. She was a very nice lady and I am sure to see her again.
Not only is this SoFlo movement doing something nice for the community but creating friendships along the way. God Rocks!!!
